As I am a high brow kind of person, I am subscribed to subreddits for a bunch of quality tv shows. For full disclosure I am also on subreddits for 90 Day Fiancée, Sister Wives and other assorted garbage. But for the purposes of this post, let’s assume I am only a participant in the quality tv show subreddits.

These subreddits include The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Succession. Are there decent conversations in these subreddits? Yes. Are most posts littered with witty, quick quotes from the show that may or may not apply to the question at hand? Yes.

In The Sopranos, there is a scene where Big Pussy, for reasons I won’t bore you with, took back his wedding present from the bride. Someone had time in their day to ask the following question:

Is this normal? Aren't these guys supposed to be classy?

For starters, let’s assume this person is asking in good faith about the level of classy in regards to a mobster named “Big Pussy”. They possibly missed some subtle hints during the show that no, these people are not classy. For example, Big Pussy killed an Elvis impersonator with a hammer. He also ran over a guy while tracking a Pokemon card haul. I would argue that Pussy taking back his wedding gift is one of his lesser misdeeds.

This person’s nickname on the show is actually Big Pussy. As this is not 2002, I won’t be explaining it to you, as you have had ample time to watch the program.

Fortunately for me, I have a point of view I want to share with the other cool people on Reddit. I am going to say my Pussy misdeeds statement from above. I click to comment and I am greeted with these three quotes verbatim from the show:

The first comment is a quote from Big Pussy. The second quote is from Junior Soprano, and to quote my grandma, it is neither here nor there. (I am not really sure what that quote means, but I like to use it)

The third quote is from Phil Leotardo, who shows up in season 5. Pussy is long dead at this point.

If you have not seen The Sopranos, let me spoil one of the biggest plot points of the first two seasons: They whack Big Pussy on a boat. Last episode of season 2. Now you do not need to watch it.

I think the first comment is actually clever. Pussy says bygones are never bygones in the show. Not in reference to wedding money, but still counts as a logical, somewhat funny answer. The second quote is the grandma quote. The third with Phil? I love Phil. So I responded to the third quote to voice my displeasure and try to get a real discussion going.

My attempt at an actual discussion:

I can never resist a chance to respond to a Phil quote with a Phil quote. This is the level of discourse in these subreddits. I wanted to say something intelligent. I didn’t. I compromised. I posted like a moron. I wish I was a consistent person, but I am not. I am part of the problem.

What a turn of events.

In Phil’s defense? The kid did kind of look like a Puerto Rican whore.
