Being an old person has its advantages

For example, I can subscribe to all the streaming services. However, I don’t have enough time to watch all the stuff I want to watch. It is the opposite of when I was 10 and I had all the time in the world to play Super Nintendo, but not enough money to buy all the games I wanted. I just played Zelda 25 times through and STFU about it, as you got spanked in those days for being a little complaining ass. As you can imagine, I was all about avoiding spankings.

I am basically saying I have watched some shows. As my time is not unlimited, these are the things I have watched lately.

Fargo Season 5

Season 5 started, and my wife started watching it without me, because I was still annoyed about season 4 and did not want to. She told me it was good so she had to start over and rewatch a few episodes so I could catch up. I realize I could catch up alone, but we are married and this is part of the deal.

Good things in Fargo season 5:

1.     Ass kicking woman who somehow learned to be an ass kicking woman and is always one step ahead. I enjoy these types of characters. Her origin story is sad, but she kills a guy by making him ram his head into a toilet.

2.     A good bad guy. Don Draper is playing a sheriff in a small county or town or something. And he gets off my favorite line of the show, which involves the phrase “moist repose”, which I had never heard of. This sheriff is the kind of guy you wish dead, which is really an awesome feature of a bad guy.

3.     There are legit undertones of otherworldly-ness via cake eaters. This gave me warm and fuzzy thoughts because my favorite character on Succession talked about cake eaters. And The Sopranos dabbled in the paranormal. I appreciate these things.

If those three points don’t make you want to watch? You should take a moment for self-reflection. Ass-kicking lady, Don Draper and cake eaters is pretty much all you need.

The only downside is you cannot watch it around your kid, as it is a nasty, nasty show. You can watch Fargo like my mom does, on FX. Or like I do on Hulu.

Bonus: Ass kicking woman also makes pancakes a lot. Plus extremely important to the plot biscuits.

Don't Pick Up the Phone

Don’t Pick Up the Phone is a documentary on Netflix. It is highly disturbing. It is more disturbing than Fargo, due to it being real and all. It is also a couple of years old. I am not one to always watch things when they are new, therefore did not care about the oldness of the docuseries. You can read a little about the case here.

I enjoyed this show for a few reasons:

1.     People are doing stupid things (a fave thing of mine to watch on tv). These are things you would never do in that spot. Ever. By all means, take some satisfaction in that. However, maybe you would do these stupid things. You can think about that while you watch.

2.     I used to work in fast food in my somewhat poor person days. And when I tell you there are managers who would fall for this, I can say so with confidence. There was a thing going around where people would call, say they we have a gas leak, and we need to break all the windows. People fell for that. People fall for this.

3.     The police guy from some small town in Kentucky really has a high opinion of himself, and you get to watch him sit there and talk like every police guy from a small town ever. So that is pretty neat. Never says moist repose, tho.

This documentary does not get good reviews, as it is three episodes when it could be two, and the ending is unsatisfying. That did not stop me and my wife from watching all three episodes. It passed the time and it is completely nuts. The victims deserve much more than they got.
